Chatting
You
can communicate with other players in your nation or in other nations, using chat. To send a chat message to other players,
click on the chat entry field in the lower left of the game
screen, type your message, and hit enter (or press the button that
looks like a speaking mouth).
Chat
messages that you send and those that anyone else sends to you are
displayed in the chat log, located above the chat entry field.
If there are more messages in the chat log than can be displayed
at once, you can use the scrollbar to view earlier portions of the
log.

The
chat log and chat entry field.
If you'd like to view the chat log in a larger window, press the Maximize Chat button to the right of the chat entry line. The chat log will then appear in a seperate draggable, resizable window. To close the chat window, click on the X in the upper right corner.
The
Chat Panel
You
can choose to whom your chat messages are sent using the Chat panel.
Open the Chat panel by pressing the "Chat" button above
the panel area on the right side of the game screen.

The
Chat panel.
The five checkboxes at the top of the chat panel determine who receives
chat messages sent by you or any other of your nation's players.
If the first checkbox, "Members of <your nation's name>"
is checked, then chat messages sent by any member of your nation
will be received by all members of your nation who are online. If
the second checkbox, "Allies" is checked, then chat messages
will be received by all members of any nations that are allied with
your nation. If the third checkbox, "Nations in Chat List"
is checked, then chat messages will be sent to all members of each
of the nations in your nation's chat list. If this box is
not checked, then members of your nation will not receive messages
sent by nations that have added your nation to their chat list.
See below for more information on the chat list.
"Public
- New Players" and "Public - General" are a bit different. These are the two public
chat channels. You can check one of these to join that public chat
channel, or uncheck it to leave the channel. You may only have one
of the public chat channels selected at a time. If you've joined
a public chat channel you'll be able to chat with everyone else
who's also on that channel. The New Players channels is useful for
new players looking for advice. The General channel is for more
experienced players who'd like to chat with other experienced players.
The
@whisper chat command can be used to send a chat message directly
to only one nation (See the section on Chat
Commands for more information). If you'd rather not receive
chat messages that are whispered to your nation, check the box labelled
"Block Whispers".
The
Chat List
Your
nation's chat list is the list of nations whose members will receive
chat messages sent from your nation, if your Talk to: Nations in
Chat List option is selected in the Chat Panel. The chat List is
displayed in the Chat panel.
You
can add a nation to your nation's chat list by first selecting the
Info action and clicking on the nation in the game map to bring
up the Nation Info panel for that
nation. Then press the "Add to Chat List" button in the
Nation Info panel to add this nation to your nation's chat list.
You
can remove a nation from your nation's chat list via the Chat panel,
by clicking on the "Remove from List" button next to the
nation's name in the chat list.
Responding
to Chat
When
a nation adds your nation to their chat list and sends a chat message
to you, a request appears in your chat entry field, asking you whether
you would like to add that nation to your own nation's chat list.

Request
to add the nation to your chat list.
If
you choose "Yes", the nation that sent you the chat message
will be added to your nation's chat list, so that any chat messages
you enter will be received by that nation (so long as your Talk
to: Nations in Chat List option is selected in the Chat Panel).
If
you choose "No", or click anywhere in the request other
than on a button, the nation will not be added to your nation's
chat list, and any chat messages you enter will not be received
by that nation.
If
you choose "Block", then the nation will not be added
to your nation's chat list, and you will not receive any further
chat messages from that nation, until either you add the nation
to your nation's chat list, or you log off and log back on.
You
can also add or remove a nation from your chat list, or block or
un-block chat messages from that nation, at any time via the Nation
Info Panel. For more information about the Nation Info panel, click
here.
The
Chat Log
The
chat log keeps a record of all of the chat messages that you've
received. It also offers some information about the players who
wrote the messages.
If
a line of text appears in red in the chat log, it is from a player
who belongs to your own nation. If the line of text appears in black,
it's from a player who's chatting on one of the public chat channels.
And if it appears in blue, it's from a player who's sending a private
chat message to nations in their chat list.
If
a player's name in the chat log starts with the '@' character, that
means that this player is a game moderator, who has volunteered
to help enforce the public chat rules of conduct (see below).
Finally,
at the start of each line in the chat log is a small dot. This dot
is green for chat messages that come from the New Player public
chat channel, red for messages that come from a chat moderator, and orange
from the Unmoderated public chat channel. Otherwise, it is black. Click on this
dot to bring up the Nation
Info Panel with information about the nation that sent this chat
message. You can use the Nation Info Panel to add this nation to
your nation's chat list or to remove it, or to block this nation's
chat messages so they won't appear in your chat log. For more information
about the Nation Info Panel, click here.
War of Conquest Rules of Conduct
There are a few basic rules of conduct that must be followed when using War of Conquest's chat feature, whether you're chatting in public or private.
1) Use of obscene language is prohibited.
2) Use of language that is discriminatory against any race, sex,
religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation is prohibited.
3) Bypassing the game's automatic chat filter by using alternate
spellings is prohibited.
4) Spamming or flooding chat, such as entering the same message or
nonsense messages repeatedly, is prohibited.
5) Spoofing is prohibited. This includes writing chat messages so that
they appear to come from another player, or appear to be whispers but
are not.
6) Discussion of hacking War of Conquest is prohibited.
7) Threats of personal violence or other illegal actions are prohibited.
8) Using the chat complaint system to file false or redundant complaints
is prohibited.
9) Posting the URL to any commercial website for purpose of advertising
is prohibited.
Filing a Chat Complaint
It is up to the War of Conquest community to help enforce the rules of conduct. If a player violates one of these rules, you may file a chat complaint. To do this, simply click on the bullet point to the left of the chat message that is in violation of a rule, and press the "File Chat Complaint" button in the Nation Info Panel that appears. Choose the issue type from the drop down menu (ie., which rule of conduct does the chat message violate) and press the Submit button.
When a chat complaint is filed, no action will be taken immediately. The complaint will soon be reviewed and action may be taken against the violator. They may receive a warning by e-mail, or be temporarily banned from logging into the game. Note that any abuses of the chat complaint system, such as filing false or redundant complaints, may result in a warning or ban for the player who filed the compliant.
