Q. Where can I learn to play? We have created an excellent tutorial that will guide you thru all the aspects of playing War of Conquest. You can access that information by clicking here. Q. How do I attack? The beginner's tutorial contains an excellent explanation on basic attack techniques. You can access that information directly by clicking here. Q. How do I gain a higher level? A nation's level increases when the nation has earned a certain number of points. And points are earned through combat, both by successfully defeating other nations in battle, and by successfully defending your own nation when it is attacked. You can find out what level your nation is, how many points it has, and how many points are needed to reach the next level, by checking the Nation panel. Q. I'm not a violent person, can I gain levels by any other means outside of attacking other nations? Yes. Your nation can also gain points through agriculture. For each square of land your nation has settled, a certain number of points are gained through agriculture. These points are then divided by 24 and distributed hourly. To see how many agriculture points your nation gains in each 24 hour period, click the nation tab and then look for the line "Points from Agriculture". Q. Is there a way for me to totally destroy an enemy nation? A nation can be attacked until it's left occupying only one land square. But this final land square cannot be destroyed by any other nation until 14 days after the last time any of the attacked nation's players have logged in. So yes, your nation can be completely destroyed, but only if it's been abandoned for 14 full days. Q. I have been playing WoC for 10 hours now and really want to sleep, can my nation be attacked while I am gone? Yes, your nation can be attacked when you are offline, however you nation's defenses will be doubled 2 hours after you log off, making it more difficult for other nations to successfully attack when you are not there to defend. Q. How do I gain new and/or better weapons? New and possibly better weapons and other technologies are gained by researching them. You gain one weapon or technology for each level your nation achieves. Note that nearly all technologies will require several steps to achieve. For example, stone spears will require your nation to research both chipped stone and hide tanning, before being able to research stone spears. For a detailed explanation of how to choose research and research goals, click here. Q. Ok, now I know how to research, but which one should I pick? While there is no one perfect path to research, it is common to start with either Cybanthropic War Machines (CWM) or Major Teleportation as initial research goals. Q. Help! I reached level 30 and now I have only 1 square of land. Why is this? Each nation starts in a special area of the map, commonly know as the "noob lands" or "noobie area". This area is reserved for new nations and players, so that they may learn to play the game before venturing out into other areas of the map and competing against higher level nations. When your nation reaches level 30, it is considered no longer primitive and is automatically migrated out of this special area. Note that if you have previously migrated before reaching level 30, you have already left this special area, and will not be migrated again. Q. How can I get more credits? Each nation is given an initial 250 credits free of charge. After these credits are spent, you may obtain more credits by one of two methods. 1) Purchasing credits using your credit card or checking account, through either PayPal or StormPay. Note that purchases made with a checking account will take a few days to process. You can choose select to use either PayPal or StormPay from the Settings panel. 2) Capturing the orbs located throughout the map and then exchanging your winnings for credits, this method will gain you 50% more credits than what you would normally receive by purchasing them with your own money. Q. I have purchased or won credits, and I wish to share them with a friend. Is this possible? Yes. The sovereign of a naton may transfer any number of purchased credits to another nation by typing the following into the chat bar: Q. What is a "main"? The term main, or base refers to the area of the map where you have chosen to settle your nation, or to create your nations homelands. Q. What does the term geo mean? The term geo is shorthand for your nations geographic efficiency. Geo is determined by how uniform the shape of your land is and/or the amount of supportable land your nation has. The ideal nation is square in shape, and contains no empty squares. Irregular shapes, mountains (which count as empty squares), having squares outside of your homelands, and exceeding your supportable land limit will make it harder for your nation to maintain a high geographic efficiency. Q. What is checkering or checkers? I thought we were playing War of Conquest? Checkering is a technique used to lower an enemy's geographic efficiency in order to weaken them. The pattern is done in such a way that every other square is captured, and then later evacuated, resulting in a checkerboard pattern. Q. Oops, I must have made someone mad, because now I am checkered, how do I migrate?! Your nation may migrate once per day, or once in each 24 hour period of time. To migrate your nation, click on the nation tab, and then the migrate button. Note that migrating your nation will reduce it to one square placed randomly on the map. Any resources or orbs held by your nation, will be evacuated upon migration. Q. What is a noon? Or a shad? These are shorthand terms for the various orbs located on the map. There are 4 types of orbs; Orb of Noontide, Orb of Shadow, Orb of Destiny, and Orb of Fire. Orbs of Noontide are the most common, and can be found in virtually all areas of the map, including the new players area. The Orb is Fire is the rarest of the orbs, with only 1 existing on the entire map. Q. So where can I find an orb? I need money! To see the locations of all orbs on the map, click the Prizes tab, and then the button marked "See all Top Winners". Q. I looked at the list of orbs, and there is one I want to try and capture, is there an easy way to zoom my map to that location? Yes, to center your map on a certain location, simply type @go followed by the co-ordinates of the area you wish to see. For example, typing the command @go 400m W will take you to the map co-ordinates at 400m W. Note that the co-ordinates system is based on a circle divided into equal slices, much like slicing up a pie. So, typing in the command will take you to an area within the slice of the map located at the given co-ordinates.
Q. I have captured an Orb! How can I protect it from others? Orbs and valuable resources are best protected using fortifications. The 2 types of fortifications available in the game are Arboreal Platforms and Fortress. Arboreal Platforms are available to a nation at level 1, but Fotresses must be researched. Each nation receives a small number of "free" or renewing fortifications daily, additional fortifications may be purchased. Note that renewable fortifications are not cumulative, a nation will only receive renewable fortifications when the previous days allotment has been used up. Q. What are supportable forts? And what happens if I am using more forts than I can support? Supportable forts represent the limited number of fortifications your nation can build on the map. The supportable limit is based on the amount of land area your nation currently holds. Once you build more fortifications than your nation can support they will begin to crumble until the number is again within the limit. Q. There are resources, orbs or other areas of the map I want to mark, is this possible? Yes, you can mark any area of the map using map flags. Map flags are a premium feature that can be purchased using credits. Premium features also allow your nation to have its own private messages area, where other members of your team may post messages for one another, or where other nations can post private messages to you. Q. What is an alliance? Can it help my nation? The online documentation provides a detailed explanation of alliances and their effects on your nation. You can access that information directly by clicking here. Q. Another nation has asked me to unite with them, what does this mean and what will happen to my nation? Uniting your nation, into another nation will result in your nation ceasing to exist, and becoming a part of the nation who sent the invitation to unite. For a complete explanation of unites, you can click here. Q. What happens to all of the technology I researched when I unite with another nation? When your nation is united into another, it loses all technologies researched and is converted into points which are then added to the points of the nation into which you unite. This makes the combined nations stronger, as the added points can mean gained levels and further research. Q. I united with another nation, but we did not receive ALL of the points for uniting. What happened? To keep the game fair to all players, points a nation receives from uniting another nation into it are limited to 100,000 points per hour. So, if your nation had a point value of 500,000 it will take 5 hours for all points to be distributed following the unite. Q. What is rebirth? What will happen to my nation when it is reborn? Rebirth is a control put into place to keep the game fair and balanced for all nations, and prevents the game from being dominated by a few super powerful nations. Your rebirth counter starts at 1000 and slowly counts down to 0. Once the counter reaches 0, your nation is reborn and must begin rebuilding to achieve its previous levels. When your nation is reborn it is once again a primitive society and is migrated to the new players area of the map, to help in the rebuilding process you are given a wealth of game credits and a fraction of its former points to start it on its way again. Q. How soon will my nation rebirth? The rebirth counter begins ticking away when the nation has exceeded level 100; each day the count is decreased by one for each level the nation has achieved beyond 100. After the nation has reached level 200, the countdown begins to decrease even faster than this. So, if your nation is level 125, you will lose 25 points per day from your rebirth counter. The countdown is also lowered when the nation wins prize money; it decreases by two for each dollar won. Q. Is there any way to gain more rebirth points? The countdown can only be increased by purchasing credits or by returning prize money to receive credits; the countdown is increased by five for each dollar of money spent on purchasing credits, and by three for each dollar of prize winnings returned for credits. Q. What is a plant anyway? Do I need fresh water to grow one? A plant is the term for a technique used by nations to give them easy access to various resources or orbs located on the map. A plant is generally a single forted square of land located ouside of a nations "main" or "base". Q. What is a seed? If I have a seed, will it grow into a plant? Seeds, or seed nations are a technique used by some nations in order to gain levels through unites. A nation creates one or many lower level nations, usually under level 100, and then these are united into the main nation for added points and levels. |
