Winnings and Prizes

Q. If War of Conquest is free to play, where does the prize money come from?

War of Conquest is free to play, with no restrictions. Prizes come from the money players spend purchasing special technologies and abilities that give their nation competitive advantages. These advantages make it quicker and easier for a nation to reach a position where it can effectively compete for the largest prizes, but paying for these advantages is not necessary in order to win prizes. The more money players spend purchasing technologies and abilities, the more money is channelled directly out as prizes. That is why the rate at which orbs give out prize money is constantly fluctuating.

Q. So, if I must purchase these special technologies, it must not really be free to play.

Yes, it is still free to play, your nation may also purchase these technologies using winnings from capturing the orbs located in all areas of the game map.

Q. Can I convert my winnings to real cash?

Yes, once your nation has more than $10 in winnings it may be cashed in for real money. To do this simply click the Prizes tab, then click the button marked "Distribute Winnings". Your cash winnings will be distributed evenly among all players on your team.

Chat Rules and Features

Q. Can I chat with other players while playing WoC? Are there rules regarding chat?

Yes, WoC contains a chat function where you may chat with other players in several ways. These include a public chat where certain rules apply. Doing any of the following will most likely result in your being banned from WoC public chat for a period of time:

1) Spamming or flooding the chat. Spamming is where a player repeatedly enters the same text, or garbage text into the chat window, causing the screen to scroll or fill up with this text. Generally speaking, repeating the same text more than a 2-3 times in a short span of time will be considered spam.

2) Using sexually explicit comments, nation names, or player names. Since WoC has players of all ages, it is required that chat be kept to a standard that all ages can view without getting an early education in things only adults should be speaking about.

3) Using racial slurs, hate words, homophobic language, swearing/cussing and other off color remarks are prohibited. If what you are saying would be considered offensive to a group of people then it is most likely not acceptable for public chat.

4) Repeated use of the CAPS key. In internet terms using the caps key is considered shouting and therefore rude. Since WoC is a war game, the occasional scream-fest is tolerated, however repeated use of the caps lock key is not.

5) Purposely antagonizing chat moderators (MODs), in order to cause disruption of the public chat room. Examples of this would be making attempts at having yourself banned without cause, or airing your complaints about MODs in public chat. All complaints can be posted to a special area of the Bulletin Board, and should not be brought into the chat room.

6) Bypassing the chat filters. The WoC public chat has a built in function to filter out most, but not all, offensive language. Attempts to use those words which are filtered by entering extra spaces or characters into the word, or purposely mis-spelling the word, is considered an attempt to bypass the built in filters.

7) Posting web site URLS or addresses for the sole benefit of a player's business, or gaming interests. These would include posting addresses to your online commercial interests, or posting affiliate links to other game sites.

8) Discussions of hacking another player's account, nation, or the game server itself. Threats to hack, even when used as a joke, will be taken seriously and may result in your being banned not only from public chat, but from the game as well.

Q. What is a chat moderator, and how do I know who they are?

A chat moderator (Mod) is a player who volunteers their time while playing WoC to help uphold the rules of public chat. All moderators can be identified by the @symbol that appears before their player name, for example @PlayerName.

Q. What happens if I break a chat rule?

Depending on which rule you break one of two things can happen. If you attempt to use a language considered inappropriate by the filters, you will be automatically banned from the public chat for a period of two minutes. This function is carried out by the server, and this type of ban is not performed by a moderator.

If you break any of the other chat rules, you will be given a warning from a moderator to stop the behavior, should you continue to break the rules you can be banned from the public chat for a period of time. The length of time is up to the discretion of the moderator, and is generally based on the severity of the offense and whether or not you have broken previous rules. Repeat offenders are usually banned for longer periods of time, and in some cases can be banned permanently from public chat.

Q. Can I chat in other ways besides public chat?

Yes, by clicking on the chat tab you open a screen for options to chat with members of your nation, allies, nations in your chat list, and public. By selecting and deselecting the boxes, you can chat with any combination of these.

Q. How do I add a nation to my chat list?

There are 2 ways to add a nation to your chat list. If the nation you wish to add currently has a player chatting in public, you can double click the dot next to that player, this will open a screen displaying nation information and a button marked "Add to Chat List", clicking this button will place this nation on your list. Alternately, you can add a nation by locating them on the game map, then clicking the Info icon (the eye), clicking the nation on the map, and finally the button marked "Add to Chat List".
